For most rapid and ultra-rapid charger, there's no need to bring you own cable, as these stations come equipped with a permanently attached tethered cable. However, when it comes to many slower, public chargers, your own cable will be required as they feature untethered sockets that require your own connection.
In the UK and Europe, the Type 2 cable stands out as the most prevalent choice for AC charging of electric vehicles, while the CCS Combo 2 has established itself as the standard for rapid DC charging in the majority or new EVs.
The Combined Charging System (CCS) is distinct from Type 2, although it incudes the Type 2 connector. Type 2 is for slower AC charging, while CCS adds two extra pins for faster DC charging. A CCS plug can handle both AC and DC charging, wheras a standard Type 2 plug is limited to AC only.
