My Hypervolt Home 3 Pro Review (A Trade Supplier’s Verdict After Selling 1000s Of Them)
![]() |
Written by Chris Chevalier-Moniz Last updated on September 8, 2026 |
Key Takeaways:
-
The Hypervolt Home 3 Pro is a premium residential charger, not a commercial charging solution.
-
Reliability is its biggest strength. We’ve supplied thousands of Hypervolt units to installers, trade buyers and homeowners without any problems so far.
-
Installation is straightforward when the site is planned properly. Built-in PEN fault protection, DC protection and automatic load management simplify the job, but installers still need to plan upstream protection, CT routing and Wi-Fi coverage.
-
It has great solar, scheduling and tariff features. The Super Eco, Eco and Boost modes give customers clear control over whether they prioritise solar energy, continuous charging or maximum speed.
-
The Home 3 Pro is tethered only with 5m, 7.5m and 10m cable lengths, and depends on reliable connectivity, so cable reach and Wi-Fi strength should be confirmed before installation.
-
For installers, the strongest benefit is confidence after handover. Hypervolt itself handles all customer support issues directly, making the Home 3 Pro closer to a ‘fit and forget’ product than many alternatives.

- Conclusion
My company has sold thousands of Hypervolt units and never had anyone come back to us with an issue, which is why I rate the Home 3 Pro so highly.
Indeed, I have worked with Hypervolt since the beginning, including giving its technical team feedback on the features and practical details installers cared about. So you can be assured that this Hypervolt EV charger review is built on genuine experience in the UK EV market, not just comparisons between spec sheets online.
A lot of other Hypervolt EV charger reviews online focus primarily on specifications alone. But as you read on, I’ll explain what I like, where the extra costs lie, and whether I think it really deserves its premium status.
So let’s get started.
Is the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro worth it for installers and trade buyers?
I rate the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro EV charger as one of the strongest premium 7.4kW EV chargers we sell, particularly for installers who value reliability and want as little after-sales hassle as possible. It is very reliable!
It costs more than many mid-market alternatives, but in my experience you are paying for robust British-built hardware, strong manufacturer support and a product that installers can fit and forget in the majority of cases.
If you’re an installer, here are two reasons why you should consider the Hypervolt:
-
Features like integrated PEN fault protection make installation much simpler by removing the need for an earth rod.
-
If something does need investigating after installation, the customer can deal with Hypervolt themselves, rather than automatically coming back to you if you fitted it. This is why I described it as ‘fit and forget’ from a trade point of view.
At a glance: My Hypervolt Home 3 Pro review
| What I like ✅ | What I don’t like ❌ |
|---|---|
| Proven reliability: this is the biggest selling point for me after supplying thousands of Hypervolt chargers. | You pay a premium: Hypervolt sits above products such as Ohme on price. I would describe it as the ‘top medium’ end of the market rather than a budget charger. |
| Strong trade support: Hypervolt deals directly with customer issues, reducing the after-sales burden on installers. | Connectivity requires a bit of forward planning: It's worth testing the Wi-Fi signal at your intended mounting spot, and opting for a hardwired Ethernet cable if site conditions make wireless unreliable. |
| Robust construction: IP66 weather protection and IK10 impact resistance make it a reassuringly substantial unit. | It is tethered only: this is one of the most common misconceptions we encounter. Customers often ask us for a socketed Hypervolt, but there is currently no untethered Home 3 Pro. |
| No earth rod required: integrated PEN fault protection removes an awkward part of many EV charger installations. | — |
| Long cable options: 5m, 7.5m and 10m options make it easier to accommodate long and difficult driveways (like mine) | — |
| Excellent cable management and finish: I particularly like the way the tethered cable wraps tightly around the body, and I think the black and Space Grey finishes look especially good. | — |
| Strong smart and solar functionality: it offers the scheduling, tariff and solar features buyers now expect from a premium smart charger. | — |
My overall view is that the Home 3 Pro earns its premium through reliability rather than any one headline feature. There are cheaper chargers that will charge an EV at the same 7.4kW rate, but for an installer or trade buyer, the combination of build quality, direct manufacturer support and our own experience supplying the product makes the Hypervolt difficult to ignore.

📌 |
Good to know: My company, Volta EV, was Hypervolt’s first UK distribution partner, and I worked with its technical team during the company’s early days, feeding back what installers wanted from an EV charger and how the market was changing. We have since sold thousands of Hypervolt chargers. |
How well built is the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro?
The Hypervolt Home 3 Pro feels every bit like the premium charger its price suggests. It’s compact, extremely well protected against weather and impact, and its integrated cable storage makes a tethered charger look noticeably tidier on the side or front of a house.
How big is the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro?
At 328mm high, 243mm wide and just 101mm deep, it has a relatively slim profile for a tethered 7.4kW charger. That 101mm depth is particularly useful on narrower driveways or exterior walls where I would not want the charger projecting unnecessarily far from the building.
How durable is the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro?
The casing is made from a durable ABS composite, with IP66 ingress protection and IK10 impact resistance. In practical terms, that gives me plenty of confidence specifying it for exposed outdoor residential installations. IP66 provides a high level of protection against dust and water, while IK10 is the highest rating on the standard IK impact scale.
What cable lengths are there?
Cable length is one of the most important things I would ask an installer to establish before ordering the Home 3 Pro. It comes in three lengths:
-
5m: the standard option
-
7.5m: useful where the vehicle cannot always park directly beside the charger
-
10m: the most flexible choice for longer driveways and multi-car households
The 7.5m version carries an additional retail cost of around £41, while the 10m version adds a further £48 at the time of writing.

💡 |
Good to know: The integrated cable management is one of my favourite physical features of the Home 3 Pro. Rather than relying entirely on a separate cable hanger, the charging cable can be wrapped tightly around the rectangular body of the charger itself, with the connector stored in its holster when not in use. With the Ohme Home Pro (tethered) model — which I have at home — I find the separate cable holder can leave more of the cable visibly hanging between the charger and holster. If the charger has to sit prominently on the front of a customer's house, I think the Hypervolt is the better-looking installation. |
Does the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro look like a premium EV charger?
Yes. For me, the Hypervolt is one of the better-looking chargers on the market. It’s available in Ultra White, Space Grey and Ultra Black, and the front plates are really nice in the darker finishes.
Older Hypervolt models had covers that controversially used to fade after prolonged exposure to sunlight. But they seemed to have resolved this issue quite well because I’ve not heard of an instance where the Home 3 has faded.
Hypervolt has also leaned into the visual side of the product more than some manufacturers. The illuminated bolt and front LED ring give you an instant visual update on how the charge is progressing, and you can dim or turn them off completely in the app if you prefer a lower profile. You can also play around with lighting effects such as Union Jack and Party Mode.

Are those features essential? No. But they help explain who this charger is aimed at. The Home 3 Pro suits a homeowner who wants the charger itself to feel like part of the technology they have bought, rather than simply being a functional box on the wall.
My physical-design verdict is therefore very positive. The Home 3 Pro is slim, robust and unusually tidy for a tethered charger. The only real compromise is that Hypervolt gives you no untethered option, so I would establish that preference with the customer before specifying it.
What does an installer need to know before fitting the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro?
I’ve already covered why features such as built-in PEN fault protection make the Home 3 Pro attractive to installers. So rather than repeat those benefits here, I want to focus on the practical side of the job: circuit protection, load management, cable planning, mounting and commissioning.
Hypervolt Home 3 Pro installation at a glance:
| Installation point: | What you need to know: |
|---|---|
| Maximum output | 7.4kW, 32A, single phase |
| DC protection | 6mA DC residual current protection is built into the charger |
| Upstream protection | Appropriate Type A RCD or RCBO protection is still required |
| Load management | Included CT clamp monitors demand elsewhere in the property |
| CT connection | Hard-wired rather than wireless, so plan the data route alongside the charger supply |
| Mounting hardware | Metal mounting plate and drilling template supplied |
| Mounting height | Approximately 0.5m–1.5m above ground, subject to the installation requirements |
| Commissioning | Initial adoption via Bluetooth, followed by Wi-Fi configuration through the app |
| Typical installation time | Around 3–4 hours for a straightforward domestic installation |
How does the Home 3 Pro’s automatic load management work?
The supplied CT clamp allows the Home 3 Pro to reduce its charging rate even when the rest of a property is using a lot of electricity. So, say a property is currently drawing 40A then, rather than attempting to draw its full 32A on top of the existing household demand, the charger can dynamically adjust its output to help prevent the main supply being overloaded.
In case you’re wondering, we sell Hypervolt CT Clamps as additional accessories here.
How easy is the Home 3 Pro to commission?
Once wired up, setting up the charger itself is very simple. You’ll just need to connect to it via Bluetooth using a smartphone app. The basic process looks like this:
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Power up the Home 3 Pro |
| 2 | Open the Hypervolt app |
| 3 | Connect to the charger using Bluetooth |
| 4 | Adopt the charger into the customer's account |
| 5 | Select the customer's 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network |
| 6 | Enter the Wi-Fi password |
| 7 | Confirm the charger is online |
| 8 | Begin test charging and automatic load management |
Most of the time, the actual app adoption only takes about a minute once the phone and charger are communicating.
|
✔ |
Pro tip: One thing I would not skip is the final connectivity check. Being able to connect to the charger over Bluetooth while standing next to it does not necessarily mean the customer's Wi-Fi signal is strong enough for reliable day-to-day operation. |
The Home 3 Pro is not complicated to install. There should be relatively little about the physical installation or commissioning process that surprises an experienced EV installer.
How ‘smart’ is the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro?
The Home 3 Pro has a lot more software functionality than you actually need to charge a car, but I think that is part of its appeal. The app is easy to use and solar owners get three genuinely useful charging modes, and integrations with tariffs such as Octopus Intelligent Go and OVO Charge Anytime can help customers shift charging towards cheaper periods.
For installers, I think the important thing is being able to explain which of those features actually matter to the customer, rather than simply selling them on a long list of ‘smart’ functions.
At a glance: What you can control through the Hypervolt app
The Hypervolt app is available on Android and iOS and acts as the main control centre for the charger. From there, customers can manage things such as:
| App feature | What it does |
|---|---|
| Charging schedules | Helps the customer decide when the car should charge rather than starting immediately whenever it is plugged in |
| Solar charging | Helps the customer choose how heavily the charger should prioritise surplus solar generation |
| Energy tariffs | Helps the customer coordinate charging with compatible cheaper EV electricity tariffs |
| Charging history | Allows the user to review previous charging sessions and electricity consumption |
| Remote control | Allows the user to start, stop or lock charging without standing beside the unit |
| Lighting controls | Allows the user to adjust or disable the LED lighting on the front of the charger |
How good is the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro for solar charging?
Solar integration is one of the Home 3 Pro's more genuinely useful smart features. Rather than offering one generic ‘solar mode’, however, Hypervolt gives the homeowner three ways to decide how much grid electricity they are prepared to use.
| Solar mode | How it charges | Who I think it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Super Eco | Waits until there is at least 1.4kW of surplus solar generation and charges using that available surplus | Someone who wants to minimise grid electricity use and is happy for charging to take longer |
| Eco | Prioritises solar but can draw enough electricity from the grid to maintain the minimum charging level when solar output falls | Someone who wants to use as much home-generated solar as possible without charging repeatedly stopping |
| Boost | Uses available solar plus grid electricity to charge at up to the Home 3 Pro's full 7.4kW output | Someone who needs the car charged quickly and does not want to wait for sufficient solar generation |
Overall, I rate the Hypervolt’s solar modes, tariff compatibility and scheduling highly, although installers should still check Wi-Fi strength before fitting, as this can be an issue if not considered properly. For homeowners who want more control over when and how they charge, the software helps justify the premium price tag.
How does the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro compare on price, warranty and support?
The Hypervolt Home 3 Pro is not a budget charger, and it shouldn’t be judged as one. I would put Ohme and Pod Point around the middle of the domestic market on price, with Hypervolt sitting towards what I described as the ‘top medium’ end.
But for the added price, you’ll get a more premium product with strong UK-based technical support and a warranty structure that favours professional installation.
How much does the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro cost?
At the time of writing, the hardware alone is available for the following prices at Volta EV. You can check out the real-time prices on our Hypervolt Home 3 Pro product page here as well:
| Home 3 Pro Version | Price |
|---|---|
| 5m cable | £626 |
| 7.5m cable | £667 |
| 10m cable | £715 |
| Typical installation price | Around £999–£1,000 |
What warranty comes with the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro?
Hypervolt backs the Home 3 Pro with a really good warranty package that strongly favours professional installers while also giving homeowners themselves long-term peace of mind.
| Warranty Cover | Details |
|---|---|
| Standard Warranty | 3 years out of the box |
| Extended Warranty | Extended to 5 years for an additional £100 |
| Extension Deadline | Must be purchased and registered within 30 days of installation |
FAQs
Q: Can you get an untethered Hypervolt Home 3 Pro?
No. The Hypervolt Home 3 Pro is currently tethered only. Hypervolt to my knowledge is considering an untethered version, but nothing is confirmed. If your customer specifically wants a removable charging cable, I would choose another charger.
Q: Is the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro suitable for commercial sites, workplaces and Airbnbs?
Not as a dedicated commercial charging solution. You see this mentioned a lot online but I would strongly suggest no.
The Home 3 Pro is primarily a residential charger, although features such as remote locking, charging data, cost tracking and MID metering can suit company-car users. For sites requiring multi-user access, billing, payments or charge-point management software, I would specify a purpose-built commercial charger like the Zaptec Pro: 22kW instead.
Q: Does the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro have Wi-Fi problems?
No. While some earlier Hypervolt models did have some Wi-Fi connection issues, these seem to have been resolved in the Home 3 Pro.
That said, like any smart charger, it relies on a decent internet connection. It operates on a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band, so always test signal strength at the mounting location before drilling holes.
Q: Does the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro work with Octopus and OVO tariffs?
Yes. Hypervolt supports compatible smart EV tariffs including Octopus Intelligent Go and OVO Charge Anytime. Hypervolt was also an early adopter of Octopus integration.
Q: What is Hypervolt's support like?
Hypervolt's support is one of the strongest reasons I rate the Home 3 Pro for installers. Technical support is available into the evening on weekdays and at weekends, with channels including WhatsApp for installers who need help on site. Hypervolt also handles many post-installation customer issues directly, reducing the support burden on the original installer.
My Hypervolt Home 3 Pro review: In Conclusion
The Hypervolt Home 3 Pro is worth the premium if you want a reliable, installer-friendly home charger with strong support, smart features and a genuinely premium finish. For installers and trade buyers, that means fewer headaches after the job, more confidence in the product you recommend and a charger your customers are likely to be happy with long after installation.
If that is what you’re looking for, shop the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro at Volta EV or speak to our team about trade pricing and availability.
